Vegan Black Bean Burger

Yummmy! That what I have to say about this burger! I have to be honest I did not know what to expect. I got this recipe from Hallelujah Acres they have fabulous vegan recipes and loads of information about food and healing, so if you can, go and check them out. They are a wonderful resource for anyone whether you're vegan or not.

This recipe had no review but it had a picture and it looked delicious. I was in search of a vegan black bean burger recipe since I had a black bean burger recipe that was delicious but unfortunately it had eggs =(

So there it is, the masterpiece =)

Ingredients

1 tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 small onion (coarsely chopped)
1 medium red pepper (chopped)
4 medium cloves of garlic (minced)
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1 1/2 cups cooked or canned organic black beans (drained)
1 cup cooked brown basmati rice
2 cups fresh whole wheat bread crumbs
Hot pepper sauce to taste (optional)
Also optional is adding 1 tablespoon of Ketchup (from Rhonda's Recipe book) - I used Aunt Annie's All Natural
1 1/2 teaspoon Celtic Sea Salt

Directions

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add onion, red pepper, and garlic. Cook while stirring frequently until soft and onions are translucent. Stir in cumin, turmeric, and cook for an additional minute. In a food processor, combine beans, rice and onion/pepper/garlic mixture. Transfer to a large bowl. Add breadcrumbs and mix well. Season with salt and hot pepper if desired. Flatten 1/4 cup amounts of mix into patties and they are ready for the outdoor grill. Cook about 3-5 minutes each side. Makes 8 burgers.
Top with your favorite toppings and enjoy!!!
My hubby enjoyed this very much and so did my little sister. =) We are still working the concession stand at our church and everyone that spotted my beautiful burger was jealous :-P
Hope you're having a wonderful week,
Jeni

  1. Well, that's us sorted for dinner tonight!
They look really 'meaty': some veggie burgers can be a bit soft (you feel like you're eating a flavoured sponge) this looks like a heavier texture -perhaps due to the addition of brown basmati rice?
I have just cooked up a pile of black beans, and have got the rest of the ingredients. So I'm ready to roll!

  2. The hubby and I were watching a MAN v. FOOD episode where he ate a Pepper Burger. This in turn, made my husband crave a hot, juicy, burger. I think your recipe is the ticket. After I load it up with jalepenos and hot sauce, I'll let you know how it turns out!
